Captain's Bond, Colonel James M. CORNS Confederate States of America Commonwealth of Virginia Book F page 299, Wayne County Courthouse, Wayne Co., WV. James M. CORMS, Captain's Bond Know all men by these presents that we: James M. CORNS, Rufus P. DROWN, Joseph M. FERGUSON, James H. DAVIS, John B. SMITH, William WALKER, Joseph WORKMAN, David C. CCANNADY; are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia in just and full sum two thousand five hundred dollars, lawful money of the United States to be levied and made of our respective goods and chatels, lands and tenants to the use of the said commonwealth sealed with our seals and dated this 1st day of January 1861. The condition of the above obligation is such that where as James M. CORNS has been duly elected, commisioned and qualified the Captain of a company of volunteers Riflemen in the 167th Regiment of the Virginia Militia and is desirathe to obtain and has applied for the issue of the necessary arms, accounterments and equipments for said Company in conformity with the laws of this Commonwealth. Now therefore if the said James M. CORNS, commandant as aforesaid shall not deliver to any member of his Company any arms, equipments or accounterments until such member shall execute Bonds with good and sufficient sureity for the preservation and return thereof where demanded, then this bond or obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. DROWN, Joseph M. FERGUSON, James H. DAVIS, John B. SMITH, William WALKER, Joseph WORKMAN and David CANNADY, who have signed the writing here unto annexed and whose signature appear thereunder baring date on the 1st day of January, in the year 1861, personally appeared before me in the county aforesaid and acknowledged the said writing to be their act and deed severly and undividably, and I further certify that the said parties who have signed and acknowledged the said writing are good and sufficient for the payment of the sum therein specified and for the performance in every respect of the obligation and conditions of the said writing.
