Addison E. Barnes (Feb 27, 1851 - Aug 15, 1934) Rev. Addison E. Barnes, age 83, died 15 August 1934 in Wetzel County. He was born 27 February 1851, son of Edward Barnes and Mary Ann Shotwell of Quaker descent, born in Somerton, Belmont County, Ohio. He began his ministry at the age of 27 and ordained an Elder in Central, Tennessee Conference in 1884. His W.VA. pulpits included New Martinsville, Silver Hill, Moundsville, Knottsville, Pruntytown, Blacksville, Pursley, Sherrard, Jollytown, Evansville, Flatswoods, Benick, Holcomb, and Rosbey's Rocl. He married Lydia Armstrong 4 May 1882 and had two children: Mrs. Paul L. Flanangan, of Salem, W.V. and Paul H. Barnes of St. Paul, Minn. Lydia died in 1888 and his second wife was Ella E. Gorby whom he married 15 May 1890. She died two years ago, 3 June 1932 age 63-3-0, daughter of Jesse K. Gorby. She was born 3 March 1869. They were the parents of five children: Burl Barnes of Burbank, Ca.; Edward Barnes of Buckannon, W.V.; Jessie Barnes, Ireta M. Barnes, and Roxie Grimes, all of New Martinsville. Burial in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville. CAUSE: Carcinoma of liver BURIAL: Northview Cemetery From Wetzel County Marriage Book, page 228 Addison E. Barnes and Ella E. Gorby were married 15 May 1890 at the bride's home by D. S. Hammond. He was 39 years old, born in Belmont Ohio and she was 21 years old, born in Wetzel County WV. The place of residence of both when the marriage was performed was New Martinsville, WVa.
