Obituary for Dr. Bruce Keifer (b. July 3, 1875; d. June 12, 1938)

Dr. Bruce Keifer, age 63, burned to death at his office in Paden City. It is
believed the fire started by him falling asleep while smoking. He had his office
and an apartment on the second floor of the Weekley Drug Store on Main Street.
He had not practiced the past few months because of failing health. After about
one hour fire fighting the Doctor's body was found on the floor by a door to the
porch. He had been overcome by smoke before being burned. He was born in Paden
Valley, January 3, 1875. Attended the Baltimore Medical College graduating in
1900. He first began practice in Shirley, Wetzel County then moved to
Jacksonburg and finally to New Martinsville. He moved his practice to Paden City
at the time of the organization of that city. He became the first Mayor of Paden
City and was active in civil affairs. He served in the Medical Corp. during
World War I. In 1901 he married Louise Stewart. He leaves one daughter, Mrs.
Homer Hogue of Masontown, W.V., two sons Charles and Bruce both of Charleston,
W.V. All Paden City placed of business will be closed for the funeral. Burial in
Greenlawn, New Martinsville.
