Jan 31, 1845; d. Jun 19, 1939) Benjamin Miles Welch, age 94, died June 19, 1939 in New Martinsville. He was born Jan 31, 1845 in Junction City, Ohio. He removed to New Martinsville at the close of the Civil War during which he worked for the railroad moving Union Army supplies. He became a New Martinsville merchant and postmaster under President Cleveland. He was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He married Margaret McCabe (who died May 1919). They had two children: V. J. Welch of New Martinsville; and Margaret of Ohio; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Burial in William Cemetery.
