Deceased was a son of the late James C. and Mary FARREN RICHARDSON, and was born and lived all of his life in the vicinity of Smoot, and as he never married he made his home with his parents and after their death with his brother, C. H. RICHARDSON, at the old homestead. Having been reared by Christian parents he early in life united with the Missionary Baptist Church and ever since lived a true Christian life, ever ready to aid in the work of the church and help the poor and needy. He was very kind, quiet, unassuming and loved by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed in the home, in the church and in the community. He leaves to mourn their loss Edward E., Caperton C., and Miss Maggie RICHARDSON of Smoot, and Mrs. Lee HEDRICK of Clintonville, besides a host of other relatives and friends. His father and mother and four brothers, John, James, W. Frank and Rufus (an infant) preceded him to the grave. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday morning, conducted by Elder A. M. FRANTZ, assited by Rev. PUGH, in the presence of a large congregation, after which his remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery by the side of his brother, W. F. He had ben [sic] under the care of Dr. Lemon for heart trouble and Justice A. W. Kirkpatrick, who was notified, did not think an inquest necessary. SHUE is survived by several children, one of whom, Mrs. CROWDER, is in Ronceverte hospital recovering from an operation. * * * * SECOND CREEK DEATH F. M. REED of Second Creek, Monroe county, died of apoplexy on Friday last, aged 60 years. He was stricken the day before his death. His wife, a son and two daughters survive him. * * * * DIED IN MICHIGAN Mrs. Donna Jane SMITH died at Grand Rapids on Monday, aged 63 years. She was a former resident of Alderson and was a daughter of the late Lewis and Margaret LIVELY. T. RICHARDSON. His Brothers and Sister. * * * * DIED AT UNION Mrs. Malinda Jane HUMPHREYS, widow of W. C. HUMPHREYS, died at Union on Wednesday afternoon last, aged 84 years. She was a native of Monroe county. Following the election of her son, R. M. HUMPHREYS, to the office of clerk of the circuit court in 1920, she moved to Union with him and had since resided there. * * * * RELATIVES IN MONROE W. F. ROLLINS died in a Charleston hospital on Saturday, aged 55 years. Mr. ROLLINS was formerly located at Logan. He was the proprietor of the Ferry Branch Cash grocery. He is survived by his widow and two daughters. A sister, Mrs. J. V. CAVENDER, lives at Gap Mills, Monroe county. * * * * WAS BORN AT ALDERSON Miss Elizabeth CREWS died on Monday morning in her home on Kanawha-Two-Mile creek in Kanawha county, aged 72 years. She was born at Alderson on January 7, 1861, and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. W. CREWS, who lived many years on Kanawha-Two-Mile. * * * * DIED IN HOSPITAL Lelia, wife of Harry TOLLIVER, well-known colored resident of Lewisburg, died yesterday afternoon in Ronceverte hospital, where she underwent an operation some days ago. She was a daughter of Jennie MORRIS, well-known colored resident of Lewisburg. [and again] DIED IN HOSPITAL Lelia TOLIVER, colored, daughter of "Aunt" Jennie MORRIS, and wife of Harry TOLIVER, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 10, 1933, in the Ronceverte hospital. She was born in Pocahontas county on Oct. 18, 1892, and was graduated from the Bluefield State Teachers college, and for a number of years taught in the Lewisburg colored junior high school. NEWSOME (colored) of Ronceverte is in jail, having been sent there by Justice McGRATH for six months for his inability to give a peace bond of $250. * * * * WAS A FAMILY MUSS On August 11 in Justice ARBUCKLE'S court Dewey BENNETT charged with assault on Edray JUDY and Juanita JUDY charged with assult on Sarah JUDY, her mother-in-law, were discharged. The trouble seems to have grown out of a family muss at Caldwell. * * * * CARRIED STEEL "KNUCKS" Lonnie BRYANT of Rainelle is in jail for six months and 20 days, having been arrested for drunkenness and sent up for the lesser sentence of ten days for drunkenness and six months for carrying steel knuckles, with ten days more for non-payment of costs. Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Burl Delbert Phillips, 77, of Naples, Fla., went home to be with the Lord, March 26, 2000. He was born September 26, 1922 in Philippi, WV, son of Bradford Ray and Bessie Pearl (Anglin) Phillips. He graduated from Philippi High School, Alderson Broaddus College and West Virginia University. He also studied at Ohio State University. He was an educator for 42 years in Iaeger, WV, Tiro, Brooklyn and Independence, OH and Naples, FL. He served at all levels of education as teacher, librarian and media specialist, high school principal, local superintendent in Ohio. Mr. Phillips was a former member of the Lions Club International, Phi Delta Kappa and the Library/Audio Visual Association. He was also a member of New Hope Ministries in Naples, Fla. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of World War II serving with the 990th Signal Service Battalion in the European Theater of Operations, landing in France in the D-Day Invasion. He served three years in England, France, Germany and Austria. On March 27, 1948 he married Anna May Lewellen of Sardis, WV area, who survives. Also surviving are two brothers, John K. Phillips of Philippi, WV and Ralph D. Phillips of Ft. Myers, FL.; a sister, Rosemary Wilt of Mentor, OH; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Delmar D. Phillips. A funeral service will be conducted at the Fuller Funeral Home, Naples, FL on March 30th at 4:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery, Lumberport, WV on Sat., April 1 at 3:00 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mr. Phillips are suggested to New Hope Ministries, 7675 Davis Blvd., Naples, Fla. 34104.
