She was the daughter of John and Rebecca (Thompson) Proudfoot, who resided on the farm now known as "The County Farm", on Taylor's Drain, this county. She was united in marriage to Simon M. Switzer, September 17, 1844. Mrs. Switzer was the mother of nine children, eight of whom still live. They are: Mrs. Frances Bishop, of Los Angeles, CA; John B. Switzer, of the same city; Augustus M. Switzer of Pasadena, CA; Mrs. Mary Booth, of Clarksburg ; C. L. Switzer and Mrs. Geo. L. Woodford of this place and Mrs. R.D. Smith and Mrs. Jacob Mouser of Pleasant District, this county. Miss Hattie died several years ago. Besides her children, she leaves seventeen grand and four great grand children; three sisters Nancy Weaver, Mahala Woodford and Susan Corbin. Together with a host of friends to mourn their loss is "Aunt Lucy's" gain. Very appropriately did Rev. Murray say "She has preached her own funeral." She converted and joined the Baptist Church over forty years ago, during which time she lived a faithful and devoted Christian, a constant reader of the word of God. She was a kind and loving mother and most devoted wife. For about twenty years she made her home with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Jacob Mouser, who lives on the old "Switzer Farm," on Fox Grape, Pleasant District. During her short illness of one week, she had all the attention and care that kind and loving children could give a mother. She was laid to rest beside here husband and daughter Hattie, in Mary's Chapel Cemetery. Rev. P.H. Murray conducted the services, preaching from Revelations 14:18.
