Taken from Lewis county courthouse -  Early Marriage Book 5, page 237


Know all Men by these Presents, that we JOHN FREDERICK STAISLEY and GEORGE ADAM BEHLER are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia, for the use of the Commonwealth, in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars; to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our and each of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals, and dated this 17th day of February 1844.


WHEREAS a marriage is shortly intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound Mr. JOHN FREDERICK STAISLEY and Miss MARGARET ELISABETH BEHLER daughter of GEORGE ADAM BEHLER of the county of Lewis.


Now the condition of the above obligation is such, that if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue.

WHEREAS a marriage is shortly intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound HENRY ALBERT and Miss MATILDA HAWKINS daughter of JESSE HAWKINS of the county of Lewis.


Now the condition of the above obligation is such, that if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue.
