He was born on 24 February 1918 in Erbacon, the son of the late Amos B. Carpenter and Annie Holcomb Carpenter. He was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Zion Pentecostal Church in Little Birch. He was survived by: wife, Celia Carpenter of Little Birch; brothers, Joe Carpenter of Columbus, Ohio and Barrett Carpenter of west Lafayette, Ohio. Sisters, Mary McCourt of Cowen, WV and Nannie Tharp of Morgantown. step-sons, Otis Holcomb of Little Birch, Tilman Holcomb, Lake City, Florida and Mitchell Holcomb of Waverly, Kansas. step-daughter Florabell Flint of Little Birch; step-grandchild and three step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, 13 September 2000 at 2:00 pm in Adams Funeral Chapel in Cowen, WV with the Rev. Thomas Propst of Little Birch. Burial was in the Salisbury Cemetery located on Spring Ridge Road in Erbacon. Adams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She was 93 years of age - was born on February 3, 1907 in Replete the daughter of the late Samuel & Della Jordan Life. She was a homemaker, and attended the First United Methodist Church. She formerly lived in Grafton, Craigsville, Buckhannon, Camden on Gauley and Gormania. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Revered Arnold Bickel. She is survived by: son - Denzil Bickel of Gassaway; daughters- Macil Lough of Rock Cave and Dacil Anderson of Gassaway: sisters - Fonda Carpenter of Craigsville and Bernice Clark of Perry, Ohio; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 9, 2000 at 2:30 p.m. in the Dodd & Reed Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sam Nichols of Webster Springs officiating. Burial was in the Black Chapel Cemetery in Camden on Gauley. Dodd & Reed Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. She was 96 years of age. She was born on 03 February 1907 in Replete, WV the daughter of the late Samuel and Della Jordan Life. Daisy was a native of Webster Springs and received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Botany from West Virginia University and did graduate work at Cornell, the University of Chicago and the University of Cincinnati. She taught Keyser,Williamson, South Charleston and Charleston High Schools. She was involved in writing the original charter of the state's Junior Academy of Science, served as the sponsor of the South Charleston High School branch and was a sponsor of the first science fair. She received the 1959 West Virginia Sigma Psi Science Teacher of the year award. She was the founder of Dorsey Tours and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston. Mrs. Dorsey is survived by : son, Milton Dorsey of Seattle, Washington. A memorial service was held Thursday, 07 September 2000 at 3:30 in the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston with the Rev. Doug Heidt officiating. Barlow - Bonsall Funeral Home of Charleston was in charge of arrangements.
