The place of his birth was Perry Co., Indiana. He died at his home in Garland. Wyoming, on Dec. 10, 1903. In 1880 he moved to Smith Co , Kansas, where he lived until 1890, at which time he moved Franklin Co, Nebraska. In 1904 he moved into Wyoming, settling at Germatia in Big Horn county and in the fall of the present year came to Garland and took charge of the Gate City Hotel, which-he acquired by purchase He was conducting this business when death cut him short. He was married in 1859 to Emeline Taylor, who died in 1891. Eleven children were born to this union, two of whom died in infancy. The remaining ones, eight sons and one daughter, survive him. Their names are: Edgar, Theodore. Amy. Dorsey, Elmer, Oscar, Earl, George and John. Mr. Shoemaker was again married in 1894 to Sarah A. Bullock, who, with one son, Adam C. born to them, remains to mourn the loss of a dutiful husband and loving father. Mr. Shoemaker was a whole souled, honest hearted man, kind and geneeous almost to a fault, and he leaves many friends in various parts of the country. The sorrowing widow and children have the sympathy of the entire community. The fuueral services were held at the late residence of the deceased on Thursday afternoon, December 14th, and were conducted by the Rev W. O Harper of Cody, in the presence of relatives and many friends of the departed and tho body consigned to is last resting place in the Garland cemetery. Mr. Shoemaker was a typical Westerner, he was a thorough farmer and had a great faith in the future of the Big Horn basin, He was heavily interested in numerous enterprises. His health was vigorous and his sudden death came as a great surprise to his many friends. May he rest in peace.
