Ferdinand had a sister, Sophia James Jebens (1867 Germany - December 1, 1900 Baggs, WY) who married Peter Lee Jons at Wyoming. (Have also found his name as Ferdinand Jurgen Detlef Jebens and as James Jebens.) Ferd married Margarite Maria ​Ketelsen on August 11, 1878 ​at Schleswig-Holstein,​ Germany. The couple had 2 children while in Germany: Andrew (November 12, 1882, d July 6, 1951 Long Beach, California) and Agnes Margarite (b May 27, 1885, married Kirk Calvert, d July 14, 1959 Evanston, Uinta, WY). ​ Ferdinand emigrated to Huron, South Dakota in July 1885 and found work and lodging. Found on Ship's list: Ferdinand Jebens; Departure Date: July 24, 1885. Destination: New York. Estimated birth year: abt 1857; Age 28. Gender: männlich (Male). Residence: Schleswig (Schleswig-Holstein), Preußen (Germany). Occupation: Landmann. Ship Name: German Empire; Captain: Nash; Ship Type: Dampfschiff. Accommodation: ohne Angabe. Ship Flag: England. Port of Departure: Hamburg, Germany; Port of Arrival: Hartlepool (Amerika (USA) via Liverpool). Volume: 373-7 I, VIII B 1 Band 062. He earned enough money to send for his family; they left Germany, November of 1885. The family farmed near Huron during the depression and suffered through a severe drought. Their third child, Carlie Ferdinand Jebens, was born at Huron November 23, 1888, (Carlie died July 1, 1976 Tempe, Arizona). They then decided to leave by wagon train with the Jons family to move west to Wyoming. After reaching Rawlins, Ferdinand heard of work available at Baggs, Carbon, Wyoming. He earned enough money there to buy land four miles from Baggs. He named his ranch the "Four Mile Ranch". Found in the 1900 census living at Election Dist # 15 Carbon, Wyoming: Ferdinand James 42 (should be Jebens), Margarite M James 41, Andrew A James 17, Agnes M D James 15, Carlie (Carl) 10. Says he was born October 1857. Found in the 1910 census at Snake River, Carbon, Wyoming: Ferdinand August George Jebens 52, Margarite M Ketelsen Jebens 51. Ferdinand and Margarite decided to move west again. Found in the 1930 census living at Uplands, San Bernardino, California: Ferdand Jebens 72, Margret Jebens 72, Edna Calvert 15 (their granddaughter). Ferdinand was a laborer on a citrus farm. Ferdinand Jebens died on February 23, 1936 at Upland, San Bernardino, California and was buried at the Bellevue Cemetery, Ontario, San Bernardino, California. Find A Grave Memorial# 95008652.
