M Rice (Peter's granddaughter) shared with me that when Peter was very young, his parents died in Germany and the children were sent to live with relatives; Peter went to live with an aunt. In the spring of 1893, Peter, age 24, left Germany for America, traveling with Henry Brumm, wife Catherine Ketelsen Klinker Brumm and Katherine's 4 children (Margaret, Hans, Dorothea and Claus Klinker). The party left Hamburg, Germany on March 30, 1893. Ship's list/emigration record found on Ancestry.com: Departed Hamburg, Germany March 30, 1893 to arrive in New York City. Name: Peter Jöns; Departure Date: Mrz 30, 1893; Estimated birth year: abt 1869; Age: 24; Gender: männlich (Male); Residence: Groß Rheide, Schleswig (Schleswig-Holstein); Occupation: Landmann. Ship Name: Columbia; Captain: Vogelgesang; Shipping line: Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft; Ship Type: Dampfschiff; Accommodation: Zwischendeck. Ship Flag: Deutschland; Port of Departure: Hamburg; Port of Arrival: New York; arrived April 10, 1893. Ship record : Volume: 373-7 I, VIII A 1 Band 083 B; Page: 227; Microfilm Roll Number: K_1748. The group left New York and traveled west, bound for Tama County, Iowa to visit Katherine Ketelsen Brumm's brother, Peter Ketelsen. After a short stay, they traveled on to Huron, South Dakota where Katherine's sister, Margaret Ketelsen Jebens was living. Peter became a naturalized citizen on June 22, 1894 at Beadle Co, South Dakota. The group did not live in South Dakota long as there was severe drought and hardships. Possibly mid-1894 or 1895, Peter, the Brumm's and others traveled by wagon train west to Idaho; the men finding work along the way. They heard of jobs available at Baggs, Wyoming so traveled there, where they settled. Peter's first marraige was to Sophia James Jebens on February 27, 1896 at Carbon, Wyoming. (Sophia b July 1867 at Schleiswig-Holstein, Germany to Andrew Jebens and Dorothy Garaf, emigrated fall of 1888 to Huron, South Dakota, probably was in the group who traveled west, d December 1, 1900 from probably complications of childbirth.) The couple had 3 children: Mary (b February 1897, d October 27, 1901 both at Baggs, Carbon, Wyoming); Andrew (b June 1, 1898, d April 27, 1899 both at Baggs, Wyoming) and Walter E (b October 22, 1900 Baggs, Carbon, Wyoming, death unknown). Found in the 1900 census at Election District # 15, Baggs, Carbon, Wyoming: Peter Jons 31, Sophia Jons 32, Mary Jons 3. Peter's second marriage was to Mary Mathilda Lemoine on August 15, 1903 at Carbon, Wyoming. (Mary b October 1886 at Fort Collins, Larimer, Colorado to Mary Adaline Floury and Timothy Lemoine, d May 10, 1913 Denver, Colorado). The couple had 5 children: Henry Brumm Jons (b September 21, 1904 Baggs, WY, d November 24, 1950 Sublette, Wyoming); Ralph W (b March 17, 1906 Baggs, WY, d December 1978 Savery, Carbon, Wyoming); Lucy Irene (b September 21, 1907 Baggs, WY, married Lloyd Levere Benning 1926 Wyoming, d January 24, 1986 Oshkosh, Winnebago, Wisconsin); Orville Glen (b December 21, 1910 Bagg, WY, d October 28, 1989 Baggs, WY) and Leila M (b 1913 Baggs, WY, d unknown). Found in the 1910 census living at Snake River, Carbon, Wyoming: Peter Lee Jons 41, Mary Mathilda Lemoine Jons 25, Walter Jons 9, Henry Jons 5, Ralph Jons 4, Lucie I Jons 2. After Mary's death, Peter married a third time to Elsie Maud Adams on November 20, 1917 at Carbon, Wyoming. (Elsie b January 5, 1884 Cuba, Republic, Kansas to James Carlyle Adams of Illinois and Catherine Jenny Giberson of Ohio, d May 1, 1966 at Savery, Carbon, Wyoming.) Peter and Elsie had 4 children: John Clayton (b March 7, 1919 Baggs, WY, d January 2, 2001 Savery, Carbon, WY); Peter Lee (b November 6, 1922 Baggs, WY, d June 9, 2011 Baggs, WY); Roy (b October 30, 1923 Baggs, WY, d March 27, 2007 Craig, Moffat, Colorado) and Ora Kathryn (b August 15, 1926, d October 29, 1943 both at Carbon, Wyoming). Found in the 1930 & 1940 censuses living on a ranch/farm at Baggs, Carbon, Wyoming: 1930: Peter Jons 61, Elsie M Jons 44, Orvill G Jons 19, Leila M Jons 17, Clayton J Jons 11, Lee Jons 7[7 4/12], Roy Jons 6[6 4/12] , Ora K Jons 4[4 7/12] . 1940: Pete Jons 71, Elsie Jons 54, Ollie Jons 22, Lee Jons 17, Roy Jons 16, Ora Jons 13. Peter Lee Jons died on August 18, 1947 at Hayden, Routt, Colorado. He is buried at the Baggs Cemetery at Baggs, Carbon, Wyoming. Find A Grave Memorial# 31261773 has a picture of gravestone.
