Matthew Douglas Carothers was born on May 17, 1867 near Kimbolton, G​uernsey,

Ohio to Samue​l Edward Carothers and​ Eliza Ann Keowan. He was a twin to
a 
sister, Mary Josephine Carothers. They had six siblings.

Matthew mar​ried Blanche George on December 30, 1896 probably at Ohio. The 
f​amily moved west to Wyoming to farm. 

The couple had 4 children: 
George William (born January 15, 1909 Converse, WY, married Maxine W Stone May 
28, 1939 Mitchell, Nebraska, died August 10, 1988 Douglas, Converse, WY); 

Arthur Edward (born July 16, 1913 Converse, WY, married Dorothy Janet Stone 
March 26, 1939, died November 4, 1972 Douglas, Converse, WY); 

Margaret Eliza (born Feburary 5, 1915 Converse, WY, married Robert Dale 
Anderson, died January 16, 2003 Wyoming); and 

Matthew Douglas (born April 19, 1924 Converse, WY, married Geraldine Peebles, 
died December 14, 2005 Douglas, Converse, WY). 

Matthew Douglas Carothers died​ on December 12, 1928 at Converse, Wyoming and
is 
buried at the Douglas Park Cemetery, Converse, Wyoming.
