Found in the 1860 & 1870 censuses living at Liberty, Guernsey, Ohio: 1860: Samuel Carothers 32, Elisabeth Carothers 21, Margaret Carothers 3, William Carothers 2/12, Elisabeth Keown 60. 1870: Samuel Carothers 42, Elizabeth Carothers 30, Margaret Carothers 13, William Carothers 10, Benjamine Carothers 6, Mary Carothers 3, Mathew Carothers 3. Traveled west. Found in the 1880 census living at Lena, Umatilla, Oregon working as a farm laborer on his uncle, Mathew Keowan's ranch: William John Carothers age 20. William married Martha Mathilda Westwick on March 7, 1888 at Laramie, Albany, Wyoming. The couple had a son, Samuel. William died October 17, 1900 at Douglas, Converse, Wyoming from injuries sustained while trying to break a horse. He is buried at Douglas Park Cemetery, Douglas, WY.
