Mr. Harrington and their children, Ruth and John Harrington, Jr., were at his side when he died. Funeral services will be held at St.Mary's cathedral Thursday morning at 9 o'clock, with interment in Mount Olivet cemetery. Until two months ago Mr. Harrington had enjoyed excellent health in spite of his advanced age, being nearly seventy-six years old. Death was due to an intestinal affection. Mr. Harrington was one of the small number of men who came to Cheyenne in the early days, having entered the clothing business here in 1873, coming from Chicago to open a store in the frontier town for a prominent clothing concern of Chicago, in which city Mr. Harrington learned the details of the business. Until two years ago he was the most prominent clothing and men's furnishing dealer in the city, nearly every man in Cheyenne at present actively engaged in the business, having been at one time in the employ of the Harrinton store. The first store that Mr. Harrington opened in Cheyenne was on the site of what is now the New York Bargain Store, at the corner of Pioneer avenue and West Lincoln Way. There he did a flourishing business with the big cattle outfits that made Cheyenne their headquarters in those days. It is said that at some time or other every cattle man of prominence in the west has worn something bought of John Harrington. Prominent at all times in the business life of the city Mr. Harrington was not desirous of holding public office. He was very much interested in the Cheyenne public schools and for many years has been an active member of the Board of Education. In church life, he was a communicant of St. Mary's cathedral. He was a prominent member of Cheyenne Lodge No. 660 of the B.P.O.E. Mr. Harrington married Miss Anna Johnson of Cambridge, Ohio, who was at the time principal of the Central school in Cheyenne. The deceased is survived by his wife and two children, John Harrington, Jr., a sophomore at the University of Colorado, and Ruth Harrington, a junior in the Cheyenne High school; also two nieces in California. John Harrington was a strong character, a man of pronounced opinion, a citizen of great integrity and always a loyal friend. He was one of the sturdy type who saw Cheyenne grow and evolve from a pioneer town of the frontier to a modern city of the new west and he will be missed by the thousands of young and old who knew him and respected him as a man and a friend.
