All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ky/kyfiles.html ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Cynthia McCarty Glenn cynthiajmccarty@msn.com July 1, 2009, 11:46 am Big Shelby Creek Written: October 24, 1857 Recorded: March 17, 1858 This indenture made and entered into this 24th day of October, 1857 by and between Absolem McCarty and Nancy McCarty his wife of the County of Pike and State of Kentucky of one part and John Clay of the same County and State of the other part Witnessesth that the said Absolem McCarty and Nancy McCarty his wife for and in consideration of the sum of $ 150 Dollars to them in hand paid the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged hath this day granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain sell and convey unto the said John Clay a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County and State aforesaid on Big Shelby Creek containing one hundred acres by survey being the same more or less and bounded as follows to wit. Beginning at a double Sugar tree standing on the right hand of Big Shelby on the hill side about one half mile up said Shelby thence crossing the same S14 E10 poles to a large popular and beech thence running down S87 E22 poles to gum and beech N12 East 100 poles to a white oak on the side of the point above the mouth of Big Shelby thence S52 East 34 poles running up main Shelby to a popular on the hill side thence N50 E20 poles South to a Maple and Popular on main Shelby N52 W14 poles to a Maple and Popular thence running down Main Shelby N50 W34 poles to a popular and Black Walnut thence N65 West 285 poles to stake thence S15 East 158 poles to the beginning to have and to hold the said tract of land with its appurtances to the said John Clay his heirs and asignees forever and the said Absolem McCarty and Nancy his wife will forever Warrant and defend the said tract of land and its appurtances to the said John Clay from claim or claims of them and their heirs and all and ever-person claiming through and under them against now any claims and the said Nancy McCarty hereby relinquishes her wright of dowery and into the lands conveyed in this deed hath here into set their hands and seals this day and date first above written. Damron Clerk of the Pike County Court for the county aforesaid do hereby certify that this deed of conveyance from Absolem McCarty to John Clay was on the 16 day of March, 1858 produced to me in my office and was proven by the oaths of Jeremiah Osborn and John May the two suscribing witnesses there to be the act and deed of the said Absolem McCarty the grantor and that the same was acknowledged by the said Ab McCarty in their presents, where upon the said deed together with this certificate has been duly admitted to record in my office, given under my hand this 17 day of March, 1858 Soloman K.
