The Reserve term designates a force that was raised under a specific call of the governor for 6- months' troops for Aug. 63 to Feb 64. They were full- time soldiers for the duration (from enlistment), but were limited by age (young or old) and/or infirmity to performing limited tasks: prison camp guards, local security forces, hunting deserters/draft dodgers, combatting cavalry raids, supplementing CSA regiments in their home states, etc. (Major Dana Mangham provided this description) Company A - 3rd Reserves (partial listing) Allen, Nazareth Apr 22, 1820 - Sept 20, 1889 Buried in Mt. Then were moved to Andersonville to free fighting men for the front. The Prof. was off on that.Co A was divided into A thru K and separated for various duties.
